Hi y’all! I know it’s been a while but I’ve got a legitimate reason…I started a YouTube channel!
For years I’ve toyed with the idea of starting a YouTube channel. I thought it would be a natural fit for me. Between my over-the-top personality and craftiness, I couldn’t fail…or could I?
It turns out, making videos is much harder than it looks. There is something about the moment the little red light turns on that stuns me. Instantly I’m at a loss for words. But that’s the least of my whoas.
Once I overcome my nerves and film a video, the hard part starts, the editing. Fun Fact: I suck at technology. If you need someone to produce a floral arrangement or fabulously festive tablescape, I’m your girl. If the task at hand is setting the DVR or cutting video, find someone else.
Luckily Mr. AD is literally an IT pro. I filmed the first video and he was kind enough to edit it for me. The mister also produces all of the music I use in my channel so I don’t have to worry about pesky copyright laws.
After he edited the first video, I knew I’d have to get serious about learning editing software. I use apple products so my laptop came loaded with iMovie. On average it takes me 45 minutes to edit each minute of content produced. I’m slow, cutting is hard, getting the sound (meaning my audio and the music) to be balanced without being too loud or soft is hard. Getting adequate lighting without sweating to death is challenging. Knowing that I don’t have much of a following and there is no guarantee that it will grow sucks but it helps me keep my priorities in line.
I’m not making videos because I want to be famous or make money from them. I’m making them because I take pride in producing quality content and sharing it. If one person watches a video and gets a new houseplant or tries a new recipe, I’ll be happy. Of course I’d love to see my number of subscribers increase or be able to monitize but either way, I’m more focused on being consistent and getting better.
I hope you’ll support me by checking out my channel! If you like what you see, be sure to subscribe and like the video. You can let me know what you think by leaving a comment here or directly on my YouTube video.
